Crime victims receive their first copy free under ARS 39-127. This covers police reports, audio recordings, and video from their case. Identify yourself as a victim when you submit your request. Staff will verify your status before waiving fees.

Note: Include payment with your written request to avoid delays in processing.

Tribal Land and Jurisdiction

Much of Apache County falls within the Navajo Nation. For incidents on tribal land, you may need to contact Navajo Nation Police instead of the Apache County Sheriff. The two agencies have different jurisdictions based on where the incident occurred.

If you are unsure which agency handled your incident, call the sheriff's office. They can tell you whether they have records for your case or direct you to the appropriate tribal agency. This is a common question given the overlapping territories in Apache County.

Arizona Public Records Access

ARS 39-121 requires public records be open for inspection during office hours. Apache County police records fall under this law. You do not need to state a reason for your request.

Some records have access restrictions. Active investigations may delay release. Records involving minors have names redacted. Personal information is often removed before release. The sheriff follows state law when deciding what to withhold or redact.
